goals1Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What about the next 2 years? What about the next two weeks? What are you doing today? How will your actions today affect your goals for tomorrow? Goal setting is an important factor in the art of finish. It begins with two questions the first being: “Where do you want to be?” After you answer this question examine your past accomplishments small and large and the means or method you used to achieve them. This will enable you to answer the second question which is: “How are you going to get there?” As you thumb through your history of completion, or lack there of, a pattern will emerge. The pattern you are observing is a behavior pattern. Think about what you did and how you did it, the pitfalls you encountered and who or what assisted you throughout the process. Now from your past experiences and present aspirations you can devise a plan that dictates daily and weekly goals. Remember some goals are simple and may only entail something as small as making a phone call or sending an email. What is important is not the grandeur of the goal but what you do immediately to further your cause. With that said it is important to never dipyramide-goal-mgt-part-1ascount your small victories and track of your successes, because if you dismiss everything you have accomplished in the past it will be impossible for you to see how you could attain anything in the future.

To the right is a diagram that illustrates the different types of goals and their relationship to one another.

Attention design & art majors at Parsons, FIT, Pace, Columbia, Pratt, NYU, and CUNY! Here’s your chance to get your foot in the door at New York City’s lifestyle and nightlife bible! L Magazine provides weekly listings of the latest happenings throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. What began in a one bedroom Brooklyn apartment of founder and publisher Scott Stedman has grown into a fully staffed editorial outlet now residing in hip and historic DUMBO Brooklyn.

Official Listing (Craigslist.org):

The L Magazine, New York City’s premier pocket-size events guide, is in need of a creative, quick-thinking, design-loving intern to aid our art department. Responsibilities will include: making ads, assisting with layout needs, image researching, photography assignments and website updating (thelmagazine.com). Applicants must have experience working with Adobe Creative Suite on a mac platform (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign). Although not necessary, familiarity with web design, flash, and dreamweaver would be beneficial. Interest in photography and access to a digital camera also preferable.

This unpaid internship requires a commitment of two full days a week for three months.

What to Expect: You are who are your friends are. Based on the surroundings… Think casual, young, trendy and fun. DUMBO has recently been touted as the east coast’s Silicon Valley with tech, web and media companies relocating to the hood for it’s spacious loft office space and art based culture. The neighborhood park even has FREE wi-fi! Local companies are known to take their work out of the office and out onto the park’s lawn. I think you get the idea.
